Bede Clarke, Professor of Art at the University of Missouri, is the featured artist for the fifth annual Barbara Ritzman Devereux Visiting Artist Workshop.
The Barbara Ritzman Devereux Artist Workshop at the University of North Florida is designed to supplement traditional academic and applied art instruction by providing students the opportunity to work with distinguished artists representing a broad range of visual media.
Clarke earned an MFA from the University of Iowa (1990) and a BFA from Eckerd College (1982). His work is included in public and private collections in the U.S. and abroad. Most recently, he has exhibited at Yingge Ceramics Museum 2012 Taiwan Ceramics Biennale, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, Louisiana, and, Arvada Center for Fine Arts and Humanities, Arvada, Colorado.
Clarke focuses on simple, direct methods of working in clay — methods that allow compassion and humanity to be heard over the technical virtuosity of a clever hand and a trained eye.
